Greater Manchester couple take longed-for step on property ladder and purchase energy efficient home at Countryside’s Radclyffe Green development.

With statistics showing UK electricity prices alone have risen by 67% since last year*, mum-of-two Lydia (38) and her husband Timothy were expecting to see a huge increase in energy bills after upsizing from a two bed to a four bed home.

Instead the family are defying the odds and have been pleasantly surprised to discover their energy bills haven’t increased since moving into their new home at Countryside’s Radclyffe Green, in Chadderton.

Lydia, a Business Analyst, who’s expecting her third child this summer, explained: “After moving from a two bed house, and particularly with the cost of living crisis, I was worried that we’d end up paying a lot more for electricity and gas. I can tell our new home is really energy efficient as we’re paying the same as we were in our old house, if not less.”

The family were previously renting for seven years in nearby Moston, Greater Manchester, but were keen to have a place they could finally call their own. Lydia had her heart set on a detached, new build four bed home, but she was reluctant to move too far away from the local community where the family were settled. When Lydia came across Countryside’s development just 10 minutes drive away, it ticked all the boxes of her dream home.

Lydia added: “We had outgrown our two bed house, and I’d always pictured owning my own home with plenty of space for us all. We were looking on and off for a while whilst saving and when we discovered a four bedroom house was available at Radclyffe Green, it felt like it was

Joe Turner, Managing Director, Manchester and Cheshire East, Countryside, commented: “It’s great to hear Lydia and her family found their dream home with Countryside, and we’re so pleased to see they’re noticing a reduction in their energy consumption despite having upsized their property.

“Energy costs are understandably front of mind for homebuyers right now and their experience demonstrates just how much difference energy efficient measures can make to bills – not to mention the environment.”

Countryside properties include energy saving measures as standard, making the properties 27% more energy efficient and use 20% less water than the national average**. Research by The Home Builders Federation finding owners of new builds see average annual savings of £2,000 on household bills.***
