A couple of home buyers have slashed their energy bills in a move to a brand-new property in Newbury.

Avril Miller (64) and John Glencross (68) recently took their next step on the property ladder at David Wilson Homes’ Donnington Heights development and cut their bills by hundreds of pounds in doing so.

Avril said: “Our new home is much more energy efficient. We lived in an old property before, but we’re now saving over £200 per month on our bills.”

“The savings we’ve made went towards having our back garden landscaped at the end of last year.

“Energy saving wasn’t initially a factor when we bought the property, but it was a very pleasant discovery when we got the first few bills.”

As noted by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) in its latest report, brand-new homes emit 61% less carbon each year, and 85% of the properties have an A or B EPC rating. This results in new properties being up to 55% cheaper to run, saving up to £2,200 a year on energy bills.

The couple, who work in Accountancy and Customer Services respectively, have made the move to the Bastion Street community with their 13-year-old dog, Yogi.

Using savings and inheritance, they downsized from their previous property and purchased a four bedroom detached Ingleby style home.

Avril continued: “The home is everything I’ve ever wanted and more. We wanted a study and a music room so two of the bedrooms have been used for that.

“Although we’ve downsized quite substantially, it still gives us enough room without being on top of each other, and the house is big enough for us to have family over to stay.

“The 10-year NHBC Buildmark warranty has also given us the assurance that we won’t have any nasty surprises.”

Their move to Donnington Heights already had several benefits, but this has continued to grow since moving in.

Avril added: “Newbury was always our priority, as we’re in the same town we lived in before, and we’re close to work, family and friends. We also loved the look of the houses.

“We would definitely recommend David Wilson Homes, so much so that one of my sons has now moved to Donnington Heights and we’re only living around the corner from each other.

“Everyone couldn’t have been more helpful, right from the start when we were first viewing the homes and making the choices for our fittings, and the communication throughout has been excellent.

“Since we have moved in, Steve (Site Manager), Dean (Assistant Site Manager) and Paul (Trainee Assistant Site Manager) have been so good to us – the three musketeers, as we call them – nothing was too much bother, and they are always so friendly. They are a real credit to the team at David Wilson Homes.”

Donnington Heights currently has a selection of two to five-bedroom homes available with prices starting from £380,000.
